No matter how cute your Siberian Husky puppy is, if she is an indoor dog and you are going to be gone for long periods of time throughout the day, she should be housetrained. It is not hard to housetrain a puppy using the crate training method. This method will teach your puppy to do her business where and when it is appropriate. The key to this type of training is consistency.

The theory behind crate training is as follows. Dogs do not like to soil their sleeping and living areas, so when you confine your dog to her crate, she will try to avoid soiling it. When you take her out of her crate at timed intervals, you'll be teaching your puppy to do her business outside, at the time you take her. When you first introduce your puppy to her crate, don't force her to go inside. She should be allowed to come and go a few times and get used to the look, feel, and smell of the crate before you need to secure her inside of it. Huskies will look at their crates as their den. Many love their crates and will gladly go into them without prompting.

If all goes as planned and your puppy eliminates when you take her outside, you can slowly reduce the amount of time spent in the crate. You may only need to put her in her crate for half an hour before it is time for your scheduled visit outside. This will teach her to wait for you. If you put your puppy in her crate while you are away, you should take her outside as soon as you arrive home. It is important during early training that you do not allow your puppy to walk through the house to go outside. She may not be able to fight off the urge and might soil on the floor.

The Northern Manor urges you to buy an appropriate size crate for your Husky. You shouldn't purchase one that is too big. Your Husky should have enough room to stand and turn around. If you purchase a crate that is too large, the temptation to soil in the corner may be overwhelming.
